Inflation increases to 3.8 percent in November

In November, headline inflation increased to 3.8 percent from 3.6 percent in October. According to the latest data from Statistics Botswana, the rate of decrease in prices (deflation) diminished for: food and non-alcoholic beverages (from -1.1 to -0.8 percent); while inflation increased for:  alcoholic beverages and tobacco (from 1.1 to 1.3 percent); housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (from 3.5 to 3.7 percent); transport (from 11 to 11.6 percent); and recreation and culture (from 1.5 to 1.6 percent). Inflation remained unchanged for; clothing and footwear (1.4 percent); furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance (2 percent); health (1 percent); communication (-9.1 percent); education (5.4 percent); restaurants and hotels (3.2 percent); and miscellaneous goods and services (6.8 percent). 

The trimmed mean measure of core inflation and inflation excluding administered prices increased from 3.7 to 3.8 percent and 1.6 to 1.7 percent, respectively.
