In September, headline inflation decreased to 2.9 percent from 3 percent in August. According to the latest data from Statistics Botswana, inflation decreased for: alcoholic beverages and tobacco (from 0.9 to 0.8 percent); clothing and footwear (from 1.7 to 1.6 percent); housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (from 3.6 to 3.4 percent); transport (from 7.5 to 7.3 percent); communication (from -8.3 to -9.1 percent); restaurants and hotels (from 3.5 to 3.4 percent); and miscellaneous goods and services (from 7.6 to 7.4 percent). However, this was partly offset by inflation increasing with respect to; food and non-alcoholic beverages (from -1.3 to -0.9 percent); furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance (from 1.9 to 2.2 percent); and health (from 0.8 to 1 percent). Inflation remained unchanged for recreation and culture (1.9 percent) and education (5.4 percent).

The trimmed mean measure of core inflation decreased from 3 to 2.9 percent, while inflation excluding administered prices remained unchanged at 1.6 percent.
