Inflation falls to 2.9 percent in November

In November 2017, headline inflation fell to 2.9 percent from 3.0 percent in October. According to the latest data from Statistics Botswana, inflation fell for some commodity groups, including: food and non-alcoholic beverages (from 2.4 to 1.7 percent); alcoholic beverages and tobacco (from 4.1 to 3.3 percent); clothing and footwear (from 2.9 to 2.6 percent); housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (from 5.7 to 5.5 percent); furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance (from 3.1 to 2.7 percent); health (from 2.1 to 1.9 percent); recreation and culture (from 2.1 to 2.0 percent) and restaurants and hotels (from 3.8 to 3.5 percent).  However, this was partly offset by rising inflation for transport (from 1.7 to 2.5 percent). Inflation was unchanged for: communication (1.3 percent); education (4.2 percent) and miscellaneous goods and services (2.4 percent).


The trimmed mean measure of core inflation and inflation excluding administered prices fell from 2.6 to 2.5 percent and 2.8 to 2.4 percent, respectively.
