Headline inflation was 2.7 percent in July, unchanged from June. According to the latest data from Statistics Botswana, inflation was higher for food (from 2.6 to 2.7 percent), and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (from 2.0 to 2.1 percent). However, this was offset by falls in inflation for clothing and footwear (from 6.9 to 6.7 percent); housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (from 5.8 to 5.6 percent); health (from 3.0 to 2.8 percent); and restaurants and hotels (from 4.0 to 3.9 percent). Inflation was unchanged for: furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance (2.8 percent); transport (–2.9 percent); communication (zero percent); education (3.8 percent) and miscellaneous goods and services (7.5 percent).
Inflation excluding administered prices was unchanged, at 3.6 percent, while the trimmed mean measure of core inflation rose from 2.4 to 2.5 percent.
