Inflation increases to 3.1 percent in October

In October, headline inflation increased to 3.1 percent from 2.9 percent in September. Inflation increased for several commodity groups including food and non-alcoholic beverages (from 1.1 to 1.2 percent); alcoholic beverages and tobacco (from 5.0 to 5.9 percent); clothing and footwear (from 8.2 to 8.3 percent); recreation and culture (from 6.4 to 6.5 percent); and restaurants and hotels (from 5.3 to 6.1 percent). This was partly only marginally offset by inflation easing for miscellaneous goods and services (from 7.9 to 7.8 percent). Inflation was unchanged for; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (9.7 percent); furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance (6.1 percent); health (6.1 percent); transport (-6.5 percent); communication (0.5 percent); and education (6.6 percent).

 

The trimmed mean measure of core inflation and inflation excluding administered prices increased from 3.4 to 3.6 percent and 4.8 to 5.0 percent, respectively.
