Email Print

In September, headline inflation fell to 2.9 percent from 3.0 percent in August.  Inflation fell for several commodity groups, including: alcoholic beverages and tobacco (from 5.8 to 5.0 percent); transport (from -5.5 to -6.5 percent, mainly due to the reduction of fuel prices in September); and recreation and culture (from 6.5 to 6.4 percent). However, this was offset by rising inflation for: clothing and footwear (from 8.0 to 8.2 percent); housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (from 7.5 to 9.7 percent, largely due to increased housing rentals); furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance (from 6.0 to 6.1 percent); and restaurants and hotels (from 5.2 to 5.3 percent). Inflation was unchanged for: food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.1 percent); health (6.1 percent); communication (0.5 percent); education (6.6 percent); and miscellaneous goods and services (7.9 percent).

The trimmed mean measure of core inflation fell from 3.5 to 3.4 percent while, in contrast inflation excluding administered prices, which did not include the fall in fuel prices, increased from 4.6 to 4.8 percent.
