Email Print

In August, headline inflation fell to 3.0 percent from 3.1 percent in July.  Inflation fell for several commodity groups, including: furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance (from 6.1 to 6.0 percent); health (from 6.2 to 6.1); transport (from -4.6 to -5.5 percent, mainly due to fall in the pace of increases in vehicle purchases prices); recreation and culture (from 6.6 to 6.5 percent); and restaurants and hotels (from 5.4 to 5.2 percent). However, this was substantially offset by rising inflation for: food and non-alcoholic beverages (from 1.0 to 1.1 percent); alcoholic beverages and tobacco (from 5.6 to 5.8 percent); clothing and footwear (from 7.5 to 8.0 percent); and education (from 6.3 to 6.6 percent). Inflation was unchanged for: housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (7.5 percent); communication (0.5 percent); and miscellaneous goods and services (7.9 percent).

The trimmed mean measure of core inflation and inflation excluding administered prices fell from 3.6 to 3.5 percent and 4.7 to 4.6 percent, respectively.
