Inflation increases to 3.1 percent in April

In April, headline inflation increased from 2.8 percent as at March, to 3.1 percent. Inflation increased for; clothing and footwear (from 7.5 to 7.6 percent); housing water, electricity, gas and other fuels (from 3.7 to 6.2 percent – especially for water and miscellaneous services); furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance (from 6.3 to 6.4 percent); transport (from -4.8 to -4.6 percent); recreation and culture (from 3.3 to 6.6 percent); and miscellaneous goods and services (from 6.0 to 7.5 percent). However, this was partly offset by inflation easing with respect to; food and non-alcoholic beverages (from 1.9 to 1.5 percent); alcoholic beverages and tobacco (from 6.6 to 6.0 percent); health (from 6.3 to 5.7 percent); and restaurants and hotels (from 5.6 to 5.3 percent). Inflation was unchanged for; communication (0.0 percent); and education (6.3 percent).

 The trimmed mean measure of core inflation increased from 3.3 to 3.6 percent, while inflation excluding administered prices remained unchanged at 4.8 percent.
