Headline inflation fell to 3.6 percent in January 2015, from 3.8 percent in December 2014. Inflation fell for several commodity groups, including: food and non-alcoholic beverages (from 2.5 to 2.3 percent); housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (from 4.0 to 3.9 percent); health (from 8.5 to 6.4 percent); transport (from -0.8 to -1.2 percent); recreation and culture (from 3.6 to 3.1 percent); education (from 7.4 to 6.3 percent); restaurants and hotels (from 5.4 to 4.5 percent); and miscellaneous goods and services (from 6.0 to 5.8 percent). However, this was offset by rising inflation for: alcoholic beverages and tobacco (from 7.6 to 8.3 percent, reflecting the recent increase in the alcohol levy); and furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance (from 4.9 to 5.9 percent). Inflation was unchanged for: clothing and footwear (6.6 percent); and communication (zero percent);

The trimmed mean measure of core inflation fell from 3.7 to 3.6 percent, while inflation excluding administered prices declined from 4.9 to 4.8 percent.
