Headline inflation fell to 3.6 percent in January 2015, from 3.8 percent in December 2014. Inflation fell for several commodity groups, including: food and non-alcoholic beverages (from 2.5 to 2.3 percent); housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (from 4.0 to 3.9 percent); health (from 8.5 to 6.4 percent); transport (from -0.8 to -1.2 percent); recreation and culture (from 3.6 to 3.1 percent); education (from 7.4 to 6.3 percent); restaurants and hotels (from 5.4 to 4.5 percent); and miscellaneous goods and services (from 6.0 to 5.8 percent). However, this was offset by rising inflation for: alcoholic beverages and tobacco (from 7.6 to 8.3 percent, reflecting the recent increase in the alcohol levy); and furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance (from 4.9 to 5.9 percent). The trimmed mean measure of core inflation fell from 3.7 to 3.6 percent, while inflation excluding administered prices declined from 4.9 to 4.8 percent.
