Inflation falls to 4.8 percent in October

Headline inflation fell to 4.8 percent in October, down from 5.0 percent in September. Inflation decreased across several commodity groups, including: food and non-alcoholic beverages (from 4.7 to 4.4 percent); alcoholic beverages and tobacco (from 10.2 to 8.3 percent); furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance (from 4.4 to 4.3 percent); transport (from 4.4 to 4.3 percent); and restaurants and hotels (from 7.2 to 6.7 percent). This was partially offset by increased inflation for: housing water, electricity, gas and other fuels (from 4.1 to 4.2 percent); health (from 4.6 to 5.3 percent); recreation and culture (from 3.8 to 3.9 percent); and miscellaneous goods and services (from 1.2 to 2.0 percent). Inflation was unchanged for: clothing and footwear (5.7 percent); communication (0.3 percent); and education (4.7 percent).

The trimmed mean measure of core inflation was unchanged at 4.7 percent, while inflation excluding administered prices fell from 5.2 to 4.9 percent.
