Inflation falls to 5.8 percent in June

Headline inflation fell to 5.8 percent in June, down from 6.1 percent in May. Inflation decreased across most commodity groups, including: food and non-alcoholic beverages (from 5.6 percent to 5.0 percent); alcoholic beverages and tobacco (from 10.8 percent to 10.6 percent); housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (from 3.3 percent to 3.2 percent); furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance transport (from 5.2 percent to 4.5 percent); transport (from 8.2 percent to 7.9 percent); restaurants and hotels (from 8.5 percent to 8.0 percent); and miscellaneous goods and services (from 0.8 percent to 0.7 percent). This was partially offset by increased inflation for: clothing and footwear (from 7.2 percent to 7.3 percent); health (from 4.6 percent to 4.9 percent); and recreation and culture (from 4.3 percent to 4.4 percent). Inflation was unchanged for: communication (0.0 percent) and education (4.7 percent).

The trimmed mean measure of core inflation fell from 6.0 percent to 5.7 percent, while inflation excluding administered prices decreased from 6.1 percent to 5.7 percent.
