Headline inflation in October was 7.1 percent, unchanged from September. Inflation fell for most commodity groups in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), including: clothing and footwear (from 7.2 percent to 7.0 percent); housing water, electricity, gas and other fuels (from 6.0 percent to 5.6 percent); furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance (from 5.9 percent to 5.6 percent); health (from 6.4 percent to 4.9 percent); transport (from 10.3 percent to 10.0 percent); recreation and culture (from 5.9 percent to 5.5 percent); and miscellaneous goods and services (from 1.1 percent to 0.9 percent). However, these were offset by increased inflation for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (from 7.5 percent to 9.2 percent, following an increase in the alcohol levy) and restaurants and hotels (from 8.0 percent to 8.8 percent). For food and non-alcoholic beverages, communication and education, inflation was unchanged at 7.6 percent, 0.6 percent 6.4 percent, respectively.

Both the trimmed mean measure of inflation and inflation excluding administered prices rose, from 6.5 percent to 6.7 percent and from 6.5 percent to 6.6 percent, respectively.
