In September, headline inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), increased from 6.6 percent in August to 7.1 percent. Inflation decreased for: food and non-alcoholic beverages (from 7.8 percent to 7.6 percent); housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (from 6.8 percent to 6.0 percent); and furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance (from 7.1 percent to 5.9 percent). However, these declines were more than offset by increased inflation for: alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (from 7.1 percent to 7.5 percent); clothing and footwear (from 6.6 percent to 7.2 percent); transport (from 7.6 percent to 10.3 percent, due to an increase in fuel prices); recreation and culture (from 5.7 percent to 5.9 percent); and restaurants and hotels (from 6.8 percent to 8.0 percent). Inflation for other commodity groups remained unchanged, including health (6.4 percent); communication (0.6 percent); education (6.4 percent); and miscellaneous goods and services (1.1 percent).
The trimmed mean measure of core inflation also rose, from 6.3 percent to 6.5 percent, while inflation excluding administered prices declined marginally, from 6.6 percent to 6.5 percent.
