Inflation falls again in July

Email Print

In July, headline inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), declined marginally from 7.9 percent in June to 7.8 percent. The following commodity groups registered declines in inflation: clothing and footwear (from 9.6 percent to 9.3 percent); furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance (from 8.6 percent to 8.4 percent); health (from 4.6 percent to 4.3 percent); transport (from 10.1 percent to 10.0 percent); recreation and culture (from 11.5 percent to 7.7 percent, due to the impact of earlier price increases in this category in July 2010 falling away); and miscellaneous goods and services (from 4.8 percent to 4.7 percent). However, these declines were somewhat offset by marginal increases in inflation for food and non-alcoholic beverages (from 6.7 percent to 6.8 percent); alcohol and tobacco (from 8.2 percent to 8.4 percent) and restaurants and hotels (from 10.0 percent to 10.1 percent). Inflation was unchanged for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels; communication; and education at 8.5 percent, -5.4 percent and 10.6 percent, respectively.

Both the trimmed mean measure of core inflation and inflation excluding administered prices also declined, from 7.6 percent in June to 7.4 percent and from 7.4 percent to 7.3 percent, respectively.
