In April, headline inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) fell to 8.2 percent from 8.5 percent in March. Inflation fell for most commodity groups, including: alcohol and tobacco (from 11.0 percent to 8.3 percent); housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (from 8.0 percent to 7.6 percent); furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance (from 8.6 percent to 8.2 percent); transport (from 13.6 percent to 12.6 percent); communication (from 1.9 percent to 1.1 percent); restaurants and hotels (from 9.7 percent to 7.9 percent) and miscellaneous goods and services (from 6.8 percent to 5.2 percent). However, these declines were largely offset by increases in inflation for food and non-alcoholic beverages (from 5.3 percent to 6.5 percent), clothing and footwear (from 8.0 percent to 9.2 percent), health (from 3.0 percent to 4.5 percent) and recreation and culture (from 7.0 percent to 11.1 percent). Inflation remained unchanged for education at 10.6 percent.

Both the trimmed mean measure of core inflation and inflation excluding administered prices declined, from 8.4 percent to 8.0 percent and from 7.6 percent to 7.4 percent, respectively.
