In January 2011, headline inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased to 7.9 percent from 7.4 percent in December 2010. Inflation rose for most commodity groups, including food and non-alcoholic beverages (from 4.4 percent to 4.7 percent), alcohol and tobacco (from 9.7 percent to 10.6 percent), housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (from 7.0 percent to 7.7 percent), health (from 2.9 percent to 3.0 percent), transport (from 10.6 percent to 10.8 percent), education (from 5.8 percent to 10.6 percent), restaurants and hotels (from 10.7 percent to 11.0 percent) and miscellaneous goods and services (from 7.0 percent to 7.1 percent). However, these increases were to some extent offset by falls in inflation for furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance (from 9.1 percent to 8.9 percent) and recreation and culture (from 6.7 percent to 6.5 percent). Inflation was unchanged for clothing and footwear and communication at 9.0 percent and 1.9 percent, respectively. Both the trimmed mean measure of core inflation and inflation excluding administered prices increased, from 7.7 percent to 8.0 percent and from 7.1 percent to 7.6 percent, respectively.
