In December 2010, headline inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), increased to 7.4 percent from 7.2 percent in November. Inflation rose across a broad range of commodity groups, including food and non-alcoholic beverages (from 3.5 percent to 4.4 percent), alcohol and tobacco (from 8.8 percent to 9.7 percent, mainly due to the impact of the increase in the special levy on alcohol), clothing and footwear (from 8.9 percent to 9.0 percent), housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (from 6.9 percent to 7.0 percent), furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance (from 8.9 percent to 9.1 percent), communication (from 1.7 percent to 1.9 percent) and recreation and culture (from 6.6 percent to 6.7 percent). However, there were largely offsetting falls in inflation for transport (from 11.1 percent to 10.6 percent); restaurants and hotels (from 10.8 percent to 10.7 percent) and miscellaneous goods and services (from 7.3 percent to 7.0 percent). Inflation was unchanged for health and education, at 2.9 percent and 5.8 percent, respectively. Both the trimmed mean measure of core inflation and inflation excluding administered prices increased, from 7.6 percent to 7.7 percent and from 6.7 percent to 7.1 percent, respectively.
