According to estimates published by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 3.2 percent in the third quarter of 2010 (July to September), compared to the previous three months. On an annual basis, growth was 11.3 percent, reflecting the continuing recovery of the economy following the contraction in 2009. The estimates also include significant revisions, in particular to mining output, for the first two quarters of 2010. As a result, overall growth, year-on-year, in the first half of 2010 has been revised downwards from 20.2 percent to 10.5 percent.
In the first nine months of 2010, overall GDP was 10.8 percent higher than during the same period in 2009 while, excluding the mining sector, growth was 6.5 percent. Please note that the estimates are provisional and remain subject to revision.
